Puppy prices

For puppies, Insurify lists a breeder starting point near $1,200 and says show or breeding quality may climb beyond $9,000 (Insurify). Those figures describe puppies, not trained adults.

Trained dogs

At the far end, CNBC wrote in 2019 about one premium operation that placed finished protection dogs at $30,000 to $80,000, around $50,000 typically (CNBC). That was one provider and one year, so treat it as a ceiling example and not a typical price.

This site sells no dogs and quotes no prices of its own.

Upkeep for a high-drive dog

  • Food: Insurify estimates about $40 to $300 a month.
  • Training: private lessons are commonly about $70 to $150 each, and a Malinois benefits from steady work.
  • Veterinary care, including emergencies.
  • Insurance. NerdWallet covers dog bites and homeowners policies.
  • Replacement chews, toys and gear, because an energetic dog wears them out.
